Guyana Women’s Team Starts T20 Blaze Campaign with Convincing Win

The Guyana women’s cricket team kicked off their campaign in the Cricket West Indies T20 Blaze Tournament with a resounding victory, setting the tone for an impressive start to the competition.

In their opening match against Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana displayed a dominant performance, restricting their opponents to a modest total of 66 runs all out after winning the toss and electing to field first.

Plaffianna Millington starred with the ball, claiming 4 wickets for just 5 runs, while other bowlers such as Cherry Ann Fraser, Ashmini Munisar, and Sheneta Grimmond also made valuable contributions with one wicket each.

Chasing the target, Guyana’s batting lineup showcased solid performances, with opener Shabika Gajnabi leading the charge with a fluent knock of 24 runs.

Realeanna Grimmond and Shemaine Campbelle provided valuable support with contributions of 13 and 16 runs respectively, guiding their team to a comfortable victory with seven wickets in hand.

Meanwhile, in other matches of the tournament, Leeward Islands Women secured a 12-run win over Barbados Women, propelled by a strong batting display from Reniece Boyce.

Additionally, Jamaica registered a convincing seven-wicket victory against Windward Islands, with Rashada Williams leading the chase with an impressive half-century.

Windward Islands had earlier posted a competitive total of 117 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, thanks to significant contributions from Qiana Joseph (56) and Jannelia Glasgow (37).

However, Jamaica’s bowlers, led by Chedean Nation’s impressive spell of 3 wickets for 19 runs, restricted Windward Islands’ scoring rate.

In response, Jamaica’s batting unit delivered a composed performance, with Rashada Williams leading the charge with a well-constructed innings of 52 runs.

Contributions from Natasha McLean (19) and Chenille Henry (13) ensured that Jamaica reached the target comfortably in just 16 overs, securing a comprehensive victory.
