Guyana Wins Gold and Sets New Carifta Record in 4x400m Mixed Relay

On Sunday night at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium in Grenada, Team Guyana secured their fourth gold medal at the Carifta Games, along with setting a new Carifta record in the 4x400m mixed relay.

The Guyanese team got off to a strong start with Malachi Austin running the first leg in just over 46 seconds before passing the baton to Narrisa McPherson for the second leg.

McPherson extended Guyana’s lead, setting the stage for Neilson Gill on the third leg, who maintained the lead before handing off to Tianna Springer, the U20 400m gold medalist.

Springer, displaying exceptional performance, powered through the race, setting a new Carifta games record in the event with a time of 3 minutes 23.51 seconds.

Her remarkable finish was celebrated by the Guyanese crowd as she crossed the finish line.

Reflecting on the race, Springer expressed confidence in the team’s ability to set a new track record, highlighting their collective effort and dedication to success.

She also expressed satisfaction with her personal performance at the event, having previously won gold in the 400m race on the first day of the games.

In addition to the gold in the 4x400m mixed relay, Guyana also secured a bronze medal in the girls’ 3000m event, with Attoya Harvey crossing the finish line in a time of 10 minutes 36.59 seconds.

With Sunday’s medal performance, Guyana’s tally at the Carifta Games reached five, including four gold medals and one bronze.

The remarkable achievements of Team Guyana underscore their talent and determination on the track, bringing pride to the nation.
