Due to the unplayable conditions of the National Park Rugby field, the much-anticipated Rugby Americas North (RAN) 15s home game between Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago has been moved to the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) ground.
The match is scheduled for Saturday, June 22nd, and will be live-streamed on NCN’s social media platforms.
President of the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU), Ryan Dey, highlighted that the National Park field is currently waterlogged and the facilities are not adequate to host an international match.
The decision to shift the venue to the GDF ground at Base Camp Ayanganna ensures the game can proceed under suitable conditions.
The transition has been supported by the Union’s Patron, Kit Nascimento, and the relevant commission, which has pledged to upgrade the National Park facilities for future events.
Dey noted that hosting the RAN fixture will cost $2.5 million, with over a million dollars already secured.
This game marks the return leg of the Rugby Americas North 15s championship, following Guyana’s narrow 24-23 victory over Trinidad and Tobago in April.
These matches are a crucial part of the qualification process for the 2027 World Cup in Sydney, Australia.
Major sponsorship for this international match has been provided by Ansa McAL, with additional support from Robert Fernandes.
The Guyanese team will also debut a new kit sponsored by Pegasus Hotel and Muse Bar, among others.
The match will commence at 3 PM local time, promising an exciting encounter as Guyana continues its journey towards World Cup qualification.
