In commemoration of the Dominican Republic’s 180th Independence anniversary, Guyana has reiterated its commitment to strengthening cooperation between the two nations for mutual advancement.

During ceremonies marking the occasion, Prime Minister Mark Phillips extended congratulations to the Dominican Republic, emphasizing the enduring and fruitful relationship shared between the two countries.

He underscored the recent increase in joint initiatives, noting that despite establishing diplomatic ties more than five decades ago, the past two years have seen a notable uptick in engagement and collaboration.

“We’re committed to working with the Dominican Republic to advance cooperation through various working groups,” stated Prime Minister Phillips.

He highlighted the practical support these engagements would provide in managing the outcomes of multiple mutually beneficial initiatives.

Echoing similar sentiments, Dominican Republic Ambassador to Guyana, Ernesto Torres Pereyra, praised the strong bonds of solidarity and goodwill between the two nations.

He expressed optimism about opportunities for collaboration across various sectors, including energy, petroleum, tourism, and more.

Over the past year, Guyana and the Dominican Republic have inked approximately 10 memoranda of understanding covering sectors such as tourism, air travel, agriculture, energy generation, and the oil industry.

These agreements underscore the commitment of both countries to strengthen ties and promote development.

As the partnership between Guyana and the Dominican Republic continues to flourish, the two nations are poised to deepen cooperation and foster greater economic connectivity for the betterment of their people.
