Guyana U19 Women’s Cricket Team Clinches Victory Against Leeward Islands

In a thrilling match at the Cricket West Indies Regional Women’s Under 19 Championship, the national Under 19 women’s cricket team from Guyana secured their fourth consecutive victory by defeating the Leeward Islands.

Guyana, opting to bat first, faced a challenging task and managed to score 95 for 5 in their allotted overs.

Naomi Barkoye contributed 17 runs, while Captain Realeanna Grimmond and Danellie Lindee added 15 and 14 runs respectively as the only batters to reach double figures.

Jahzara Claxton of the Leeward Islands took two wickets for 26 runs, with Gabrielle Harrylall and Kimberley Anthony also contributing with one wicket each.

In response, the Leeward Islands needed 95 runs from 120 balls but fell short, managing only 92 runs in 19.4 overs.

Captain Claxton played a notable innings, scoring 52 runs, including two sixes and two fours.

However, the Guyanese bowlers proved decisive, with Nyia Latchman and Trisha Hardat each taking three wickets, supported by medium pacer Crystal Durant who claimed two wickets.

With this victory, Guyana remains undefeated in the tournament and now looks forward to their next match against the Windward Islands at the Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground in St. Augustine, Trinidad.

The team is poised to continue their impressive performance as they aim for the championship title.
