Guyana to Receive New 3×3 Basketball Courts from FIBA

Guyana is set to bolster its basketball infrastructure with the addition of new 3×3 courts, as part of the Central American and Caribbean Basketball Confederation’s (CONCENCABA) initiative to promote grassroots and 3×3 basketball in the region.

President of the Guyana Basketball Federation, Michael Singh, leading a delegation to the CONCENCABA and Caribbean Basketball Confederation in Aruba, announced that Guyana has been promised new 3×3 courts to be installed later this year.

Singh also revealed another significant development during Guyana’s participation in the assemblies.

They have reached an agreement with neighboring Trinidad and Tobago and Suriname to establish a multi-nation league.

This league initiative aims to enhance collaboration and competition among regional basketball teams, with the possibility of additional countries like French Guiana and Barbados joining in the future.

Moreover, the focus of discussions at the assemblies was on the Caribbean Basketball Confederation Championship, tentatively scheduled to be hosted in Jamaica later this year.

Singh commended his general secretary, who also serves as the president of CONCENCABA, for their contributions to the assembly.

3×3 basketball, a shortened version of traditional 5-on-5 basketball, is gaining popularity globally and is played on a half court instead of a full court.

Guyana’s delegation, led by President Michael Singh and including Vice President Jermaine Slater, is poised to advance the country’s basketball agenda and foster regional collaboration in the sport.
