Education Minister Priya Manickchand has announced significant developments in the education sector, with plans to construct six new primary schools and open Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centres across the country.
Despite achieving Universal Primary Education, the government of Guyana remains committed to further enhancing accessibility and the delivery of education. The construction of six new primary schools is part of this ongoing investment, with locations including Parfaite Harmonie, Tabatinga, and Tuschen.
Minister Manickchand emphasized that the construction of these schools is an investment in the children and the future of Guyana, reinforcing the government’s commitment to providing quality education at the primary level.
In addition to the new primary schools, the government will be opening TVET centres in various regions.
These include Mabaruma in Region One, Fellowship in Region Three, Beterverwagting in Region Four, Hopetown in Region Five, Bartica in Region Seven, and St. Ignatius in Region Nine.
The establishment of these TVET centres is a strategic move to enhance vocational education opportunities in different regions, aligning with the government’s vision for a comprehensive and accessible education system.
Approximately $1 billion has already been allocated for the TVET program in the first half of 2023, benefiting around 4,158 trainees. This financial commitment reflects the government’s dedication to equipping the workforce with the skills necessary for personal and national development.
