Later this year, Guyana will present its case for supporting forestry and conservation initiatives at the G20 conference in Brazil.
Vice-President and PPP General Secretary Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo emphasized that environmental diplomacy is a crucial component of Guyana’s foreign strategy.
The G20 Summit, scheduled to take place in Rio de Janeiro on November 18 and 19, is the premier global forum for discussing major economic issues.
The event will cover topics such as global finance, sustainable infrastructure and development, and climate change.
Dr. Jagdeo highlighted Guyana’s plans to advocate for climate financing to support conservation efforts in forested countries like Guyana.
He noted that substantial financial resources are required to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change and facilitate adaptation.
Dr. Jagdeo stressed the importance of developing new mechanisms to preserve forests globally.
He argued that public funds alone will not be sufficient to maintain the world’s forests, and urged policymakers to focus on innovative solutions.
