The Guyana Squash Association (GSA) is gearing up to kickstart its Saturday morning classes aimed at children aged six to sixteen.

Set to commence at the Georgetown Club on Camp Street, this initiative spearheaded by tournament organizer and coach Deje Dias is poised to introduce more youngsters to the sport of squash.

Dias emphasized the longstanding tradition of Saturday morning classes within the Guyana Squash community, tracing back to the 1970s or 1980s.

He highlighted the effectiveness of this approach in nurturing new players, especially among the youth.

Drawing from personal experience, Dias underscored the importance of continuity in this proven method of talent development.

The classes will feature national players who will actively engage with the aspiring young athletes, providing them with valuable insights and guidance.

Dias stressed the significance of parental involvement, urging parents to support their children’s participation in the program.

He emphasized that squash is a meritocracy where success is based on skill and dedication, requiring full commitment from both the players and their families.

Participants are advised to come prepared with non-marking shoes, water, and a positive mindset.

The program aims to instill discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship while fostering a love for squash among the youth.

The launch of Saturday morning classes by the Guyana Squash Association reflects its commitment to expanding grassroots participation and grooming the next generation of squash enthusiasts.

Through structured training sessions and mentorship, the association aims to cultivate a vibrant squash community and elevate the sport’s profile in the country.
