Guyana is set to take centre stage in the regional media landscape as the Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) hosts its 57th General Assembly and Media Awards from August 17 to 19, 2026, marking the first time in more than a decade that the prestigious gathering will be held in Guyana.

Associated activities will begin on August 16, ahead of the official three-day event, which will bring together broadcasters, media executives, industry professionals and other delegates from across the Caribbean and internationally for discussions, networking and the celebration of excellence in Caribbean media.

The preparations are also being supported by Chief Executive Officer of the National Communications Network and Guyana’s Country Director to the CBU, Neaz Subhan, who has been closely involved in coordinating Guyana’s hosting of the event as Co-Chair of the LOC.

Guyana’s hosting of this event represents an important moment for both Guyana and its media industry, providing an opportunity for the country to once again welcome some of the region’s leading media professionals while strengthening relationships and encouraging greater collaboration across the Caribbean.

The General Assembly will provide a forum for CBU members to engage on issues affecting the regional media industry, exchange ideas and experiences, and explore opportunities for continued development and cooperation within an evolving global media environment.

The programme includes delegates’ tours, an Exhibitors’ and Partners’ Showcase, the AGA Plenary, a Media Technology Seminar, the Opening Ceremony and Hall of Fame Induction, Conference Day and the CBU Media Awards Gala. President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali will deliver the keynote address at the Opening Ceremony on Tuesday evening, while Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Information and Public Affairs, Hon. Kwame McCoy, M.P., will serve as Keynote Speaker on the Conference Day.

Guyana is represented within the Caribbean Broadcasting Union by NCN, News Room and the Guyana National Broadcasting Authority (GNBA), reflecting the country’s continued involvement in the regional broadcasting community. Adding to the excitement surrounding this year’s gathering is a record-setting number of submissions for the CBU Media Awards, which recognise outstanding work produced by media professionals and organisations across the Caribbean.

The Media Awards will be one of the major highlights of the programme, celebrating excellence, creativity and impactful storytelling across the Caribbean.

With final preparations now underway, Guyana is ready to welcome delegates for what is expected to be an engaging and memorable 57th General Assembly and Media Awards. The return of the CBU General Assembly to Guyana after more than a decade signifies an opportunity to showcase Guyana’s hospitality, culture and growing role within the regional media landscape.
