Preparations are in full swing for the upcoming United Nations Food and Agriculture Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean (LARC 38), set to be hosted in Guyana.

Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha, provided an update on the progress of preparations for the conference, which will convene over 20 high-level dignitaries starting from Monday, March 18.

The conference will focus on critical issues such as malnutrition, food security, and climate change, among others.

It will also emphasize the role of each state in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Minister Mustapha anticipates robust discussions during the conference, particularly highlighting President Irfaan Ali’s keynote address at the opening ceremony.

This marks the first time that Guyana will host the conference, signifying the country’s leadership in the regional food security agenda.

The planning committee is currently finalizing arrangements for the arrival and commencement of the conference.

Notably, Minister Mustapha chaired the virtual aspect of the conference, which concluded recently.

This significant event underscores Guyana’s commitment to addressing key challenges in agriculture and food security, providing a platform for regional collaboration and dialogue.
