The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Senior Women’s Unit is intensifying preparations for the upcoming Cricket West Indies (CWI) Regional Women’s Senior Super50, set to take place later this month in St. Kitts.

As part of the selection process, the GCB is hosting its annual Super50 tournament featuring teams from Guyana’s three counties.

Head Coach Clive Grimmond expressed satisfaction with the tournament’s progress, noting that the matches are helping selectors identify the best players for the national squad.

Guyana has consistently finished as runners-up in the regional tournament in recent years.

However, Grimmond is confident that the team can secure the title this time, highlighting their determination to improve on last year’s second-place finish.

In Monday’s county match at the LBI Ground, Essequibo edged out Demerara with a thrilling one-wicket victory in a low-scoring encounter.

Demerara, batting first, posted 140 all out in 34.4 overs, with Cherry Ann Fraser top-scoring with 51 and Niya Latchman adding 26.

Essequibo faced early setbacks but held firm to chase down the target, finishing at 141 for 9 in 28.3 overs.

With competitive performances at the domestic level, Guyana’s senior women’s team looks to be in strong form as they set their sights on regional glory.
