Guyana has witnessed a significant rise in tourism in 2024, with approximately 300,000 visitors arriving between January and October, according to the Minister of Tourism, Industry, and Commerce, Oneidge Walrond.
During the Ministry’s year-end press conference, Walrond announced that visitor arrivals have increased by 15% compared to the same period in 2023.
This surge has pushed the country’s visitor numbers beyond pre-pandemic levels, with nine out of the ten months of the year setting new records.
The rise in arrivals reflects Guyana’s growing status as a preferred travel destination, driven by its expanding eco-tourism appeal and the government’s strategic initiatives in promoting tourism.
The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) has played a key role in supporting this growth, including the conditional approval of 26 new Bed and Breakfast establishments in 2024, which has diversified the country’s tourism offerings.
With tourism numbers continuing to increase, the Ministry is working to ensure that this upward trajectory is maintained.
The focus is on long-term sustainable growth to maximize the economic benefits for local communities and the broader national economy.
The increase in tourism is part of a larger strategy to enhance Guyana’s reputation on the global stage and attract more international visitors while benefiting local businesses.
