Guyana Secures Dominant 5-0 Victory Over Antigua in CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Qualifiers

February 24, 2025

Guyana’s national under-20 women’s football team delivered a commanding performance on Sunday, securing a 5-0 victory against Antigua and Barbuda in Group A of the CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Qualifiers.

The match took place at the ABFA Technical Center in Saint John’s, Antigua and Barbuda.

Striker Se-Hanna Mars led the charge for Guyana, demonstrating exceptional pace and skill.

She opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a clinical penalty, setting the tone for the encounter.

After halftime, she struck again from outside the penalty area, extending Guyana’s lead.

Mars completed her hat-trick in the 68th minute, giving her team an unassailable 3-0 advantage.

The Guyanese attack continued to capitalize on their opponents’ defensive lapses.

In the 78th minute, Liyah Menilek capitalized on a loose ball inside the penalty box to add her name to the scoresheet.

The victory was sealed when Karmiellia Hughes netted in the 85th minute, cementing a dominant 5-0 triumph for Guyana.

In their opening qualifier on Friday, Guyana settled for a goalless draw against Belize despite controlling possession and creating multiple scoring opportunities.

A potential winning goal was ruled offside, denying the team a full three points.

Goalkeeper Nya-Grace Young recorded her first clean sheets of the qualifiers, contributing to Guyana’s strong defensive showing.

The six group winners from the qualifiers will advance to the CONCACAF U-20 Championship, where they will compete for a spot in the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
