Guyana has successfully renewed its license to conduct trauma team training for health practitioners over the next three years. Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony emphasized that this provision will significantly enhance Guyana’s ability to respond effectively and skillfully to traumatic situations.
The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) is set to restart trauma team training for health practitioners across the nation, with an initial batch of 25 participants. This program, generously supported by the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) through a $6 million grant, will be administered online through the Moodle platform.
Dr. Frank Anthony underscored that this initiative is a crucial component of the GPHC’s secondary trauma prevention strategy, aimed at reducing injuries, disabilities, and fatalities among individuals.
He urged all participants to collaborate closely and attentively engage with the provided information during the training.
Meanwhile, CFLI Manager Dr. Caroline Mireault expressed the Canadian government’s pleasure in contributing to the enhancement of medical capacity in Guyana.
Guyana has been conducting trauma team training for healthcare professionals since 2006. However, the most recent session took place in 2019, just before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
