Guyana Prison Service Exhibition Showcases Inmate Talent in Celebration of 40th Anniversary

In a display of remarkable talent, inmates demonstrated their skills in cooking, agriculture, art, and tailoring at the Guyana Prison Service (GPS) exhibition.

This event is part of the celebratory activities marking the 40th anniversary of the Prison Service.

Operating under the theme “Promoting Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Prisoners,” the exhibition served as a platform for incarcerated individuals to not only showcase their abilities but also reaffirm their commitment to their families and society.

Several inmates shared their experiences with this news outlet, highlighting the profound impact this opportunity has had on their lives.

Home Affairs Minister, Robeson Ben, lauded the exhibition as a positive endeavor, emphasizing the importance of utilizing one’s time in prison constructively. Minister Ben underscored the need to equip inmates with the skills and knowledge necessary for successful reintegration into society.

The exhibition, hosted at the National Cultural Center Tarmac, will run until Sunday, October 1st.

The public is warmly encouraged to support this initiative, which is entirely free of cost.

The Guyana Prison Service exhibition of 2023 stands as a testament to the potential for growth and transformation, even within challenging circumstances, and reflects a commitment to the rehabilitation and reintegration of incarcerated individuals.
