Guyana Prepares for Exciting Calypso, Soca, Dancehall, and Chutney Monarch Competitions

As anticipation builds across Guyana, citizens are eagerly awaiting the start of the highly anticipated Calypso, Soca, Dancehall, and Chutney monarch competitions, slated to kick off tomorrow.

NCN News had the privilege of attending rehearsals and capturing snippets of the preparations, providing a glimpse into the excitement surrounding the upcoming events.

The festivities will commence with the Calypso Monarch competition on Friday, February 16, at the Tabatinga Sport Complex in Lethem, Region Nine.

Participants have been diligently honing their performances, exuding confidence and enthusiasm.

Lil Canary, an Adult Calypso Finalist, expressed satisfaction with the band’s preparation, stating, “The band got my music in the short space of time we had, so I am feeling very confident.”

The palpable energy and readiness among performers promise an engaging and memorable event.

Following the Calypso Monarch, the spotlight will shift to the Soca Monarch competition on Saturday, February 17, at the Linden Bus Park in Region Ten.

Artists like ‘Nature Boy’ and ‘Melon’ McRea exuded excitement and gratitude for the opportunity, emphasizing the fairness of the competition and the importance of community support.

Vintage, another Adult Soca Monarch Finalist, shared hopes of motivating the audience with their performance, aiming to leave a lasting impression beyond the event.

Carlvin Burnett, an Adult Soca Monarch Finalist, highlighted the significance of hosting the event in various regions, acknowledging the diversity and potential turnout across the country.

Meanwhile, the final showdown will feature the Dancehall and Chutney Monarch competitions on Sunday, February 18.

The Dancehall competition will be held at the 1823 monument site along the Kitty Seawall, while the Chutney competition will take place at the Anna Regina Car Park in Essequibo.

With Guyanese communities buzzing with excitement and anticipation, the Calypso, Soca, Dancehall, and Chutney monarch competitions promise to be vibrant celebrations of culture and talent, uniting participants and spectators alike in a joyous display of music and performance.
