The Guyana Police Force’s Traffic Department has been working diligently to reduce road accidents, with a particular focus on implementing road safety programs in schools.
These initiatives have already been introduced in some regions, aiming to raise awareness among children about how to use the roads safely.
Inspector Sherwin Henry, Traffic Officer for Region 10, shared that the programs have been successful so far, with interactions between police officers and students.
Additionally, some patrols have been revived, and no fatal accidents involving schoolchildren have occurred this year.
The education drive will continue to target schoolchildren and promote safer road usage.
The Guyana National Road Safety Council has been instrumental in supporting these efforts, recently donating materials to aid the educational programs.
Furthermore, the Guyana Regional Road Safety Council 4C has been working with schools along the East Coast Corridor to establish road safety patrols, with plans to offer more training and provide necessary tools for the initiative.
A new program launched by the Guyana Regional Road Safety Council 4C integrates road safety into the school curriculum.
The program includes training teachers, distributing educational materials, and reintroducing road safety topics in classrooms.
