With the Christmas season in full swing, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) is urging citizens to prioritize safety amid the festive activities.

Division 4A Commander, Assistant Commissioner Simon McBean, has outlined several measures aimed at ensuring a safe and enjoyable holiday period.

The GPF emphasized the importance of securing homes by locking doors, windows, and gates when leaving or going to bed, using security systems, and keeping exterior lights on at night.

Citizens are advised to avoid sharing travel plans on social media until returning home and to remain cautious about letting strangers into their homes.

Road safety is also a key focus, with the police reminding drivers to maintain their vehicles, particularly brakes, tires, and lights, before traveling.

Citizens are warned against drunk driving and are encouraged to celebrate responsibly.

Double parking and diagonal parking, which cause congestion and safety issues, are strongly discouraged.

In crowded spaces like shopping centers, where pickpocketing incidents often rise during the holidays, the GPF advises the public to stay alert and aware of their surroundings.

Shoppers should secure wallets, phones, and bags at all times.

To enhance public safety, the police have increased patrols in key areas, including deploying plainclothes officers to monitor and gather intelligence.

The GPF also encourages citizens to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the emergency hotline.

By following these safety tips and working with law enforcement, the public can help ensure a secure and joyful holiday season.
