Guyana Police Force and Ministry of Agriculture Host Farmers Market

The Guyana Police Force, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, organized the first farmers market of the year at the Police Sports Ground in Eve Leary.

The event brought together farmers and agro-processors from various regions of Guyana, showcasing a diverse range of produce and products.

The farmers market, held at the Police sports ground, featured freshly picked leafy vegetables, vibrant fruits, and a variety of agricultural products.

The gates opened at 4:30 hours, attracting a large crowd eager to take advantage of the competitive deals and offers available.

Citizens expressed their appreciation for the initiative, highlighting the direct link it provides between farmers and consumers.

Farmers saw the event as an opportunity to sell their produce directly to the market, eliminating intermediaries and ensuring better prices.

Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha, present at the event, emphasized the government’s goal of providing citizens with a direct link to farmers to improve the pricing of produce.

Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken mentioned the intent to expand the initiative to include community-based farmers in future events.

The Farmers Market initiative is part of the government’s efforts to address rising food prices caused by external factors.

The event aims to create a hub for food production and distribution, promoting interaction between large-scale farmers and communities.
