In a historic milestone, the Guyana Police Force Academy has been awarded an Institutional Accreditation Certification, making it the first public agency in Guyana to achieve this esteemed status.
This accreditation signifies that the education and training provided by the Police Academy meet not only local but also international standards of excellence and acceptability.
Calvin Brutus, Deputy Commissioner for administration with oversight for the academy, expressed that this remarkable achievement will drive the Force to further enhance law enforcement standards. He emphasized that the accreditation, presented on August 25, 2023, is valid for a period of five years.
“We have adopted a posture of continuous improvement, and our aim is to involve renowned law enforcement institutions on the international stage,” stated Deputy Commissioner Calvin Brutus.
Meanwhile, Dr. Marcel Hutson, Executive Director of the National Accreditation Council, urged other public entities to follow in the footsteps of the police force and pursue accreditation. He emphasized the transformative impact of accreditation, elevating the value and status of an institution.
“Those who are languishing in the realm of registration should move towards accreditation, which takes you to another level and adds value to your institution,” encouraged Dr. Marcel Hutson.
The journey towards accreditation commenced in September of the previous year and was led by Force Training Officer, Woman Superintendent Nicola Kendall. Kendall emphasized that this achievement marks a pivotal moment in the modernization process of the Guyana Police Force.
