In a bid to foster international partnerships and economic growth, the Minister of Tourism, Industry, and Commerce, Oneidge Walrond, enthusiastically welcomed the UK Trade Mission, emphasizing that Guyana is open for business and highlighting the plethora of opportunities available.
During a reception at the British High Commissioner’s residence on Thursday, Minister Walrond expressed optimism, noting that this marks the third trade mission from the United Kingdom within just 18 months.
She interpreted this as a sign of confidence and strong interest from investors, illustrating enduring ties between the nations.
She further reassured foreign companies of the government’s ongoing support, encouraging them to form partnerships with local businesses.
The Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting the private sector.
Meanwhile, UK High Commissioner to Guyana, Jane Miller, commended the positive impact of these trade missions, revealing that over 50 percent of the participating companies had signed partnership deals or contracts.
Miller highlighted the significant increase in trade, with Guyana now standing as the leading UK trade partner in the Caribbean, boasting a 130.6% increase compared to the previous year.
The trade mission, featuring seven major British companies, conducted over 60 meetings with local companies during the three-day period.
The commitment to strengthen economic ties between Guyana and the United Kingdom remains a top priority, with ongoing support and initiatives planned for the future.
