Guyana Names U21 Hockey Squad for Pan American Challenge

Guyana’s national Under-21 men’s hockey team has been announced for the upcoming Pan American Hockey Federation Junior Challenge, set to take place in Barbados from March 8-16.

The tournament serves as the regional qualifier for the Junior Pan American Games, scheduled for August 9-22 in Paraguay.

The competition will feature a single-pool format, with Guyana facing off against Brazil, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Guatemala, and Venezuela.

The national team will open its campaign against Guatemala, followed by matches against Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, Brazil, and concluding the group stage against host nation Barbados.

Head Coach Robert Fernandes has expressed confidence in the squad, highlighting its experienced core.

He noted that many of the selected players have previously represented Guyana in international competitions, which he believes will be an asset in the upcoming challenge.

The selected squad includes Darious Alleyne, Donnel Alleyne, Shaquon Favorite, Grant Fernandes, Baraka Garnett, Anthony Harry, Javid Hussain, Jabari Lovell, Robert Marcus, Simeon Moore, Yonnick Norton, Shane Sargeant, Nkosi Saul, Quinn Tobin, Vladimir Woodroffe, and Daniel Woolford.

Clay Bobb and Navid Hussain have been named as standby players.

The coaching staff will be led by Fernandes, with assistance from John Abraham, Shane Samuels, and Tivesarid Garnett.

Guyana aims to secure a top finish in the competition to earn a spot at the Junior Pan American Games, continuing its development in regional hockey.
