Guyana has announced its Under-21 men’s hockey squad for the upcoming Pan American Hockey Federation Junior Challenge, scheduled to take place in Barbados from March 8 to 16.

The tournament will serve as the regional qualifier for the Junior Pan American Games, set for August 9 to 22 in Paraguay.

The competition will feature a single-pool format with teams from Brazil, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Guatemala, Venezuela, and Guyana.

The national team will open its campaign against Guatemala before facing Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, Brazil, and host nation Barbados in the group stage.

Head Coach Robert Fernandes has expressed confidence in the squad, highlighting its strong core of experienced players who have previously represented Guyana at the international level.

The selected team includes Darious Alleyne, Donnel Alleyne, Shaquon Favorite, Grant Fernandes, Baraka Garnett, Anthony Harry, Javid Hussain, Jabari Lovell, Robert Marcus, Simeon Moore, Yonnick Norton, Shane Sargeant, Nkosi Saul, Quinn Tobin, Vladimir Woodroffe, and Daniel Woolford.

Clay Bobb and Navid Hussain have been named as standby players.

Fernandes will be supported by assistant coaches John Abraham, Shane Samuels, and Tivesarid Garnett as the team prepares for the crucial qualifying tournament.

The competition is expected to be highly competitive, with teams vying for a spot in the Junior Pan American Games later this year.
