The Guyana Mining School and Training Centre is playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of the nation’s mining industry through its educational programs.

Joanne Nelson, an instructor at the school, highlights the institution’s critical role in advancing mining education and ensuring the sector’s sustainability.

The school has been instrumental in providing comprehensive education, training, and research opportunities, which are essential for the growth and longevity of the mining industry in Guyana.

To date, it has trained over a thousand individuals, with plans to extend its reach even further in the coming months.

In collaboration with various local and international organizations, including Canadian colleges and institutions, the Ministry of Social Protection, Conservation International, and the Guyana Women in Mining Organization, the school is expanding its educational initiatives.

One notable project is a recent course held in Bartica, Region 7, specifically designed for women in the mining sector.

This six-month program includes three months of theoretical instruction followed by practical field experience, aiming to empower women with both knowledge and hands-on skills.

The Guyana Mining School continues to engage in outreach efforts across different mining regions, providing essential information and promoting the importance of education in the industry.

These initiatives are expected to have a significant positive impact on participants and contribute to the overall development of the mining sector.
