The Guyana Marketing Corporation (GMC) recently hosted its inaugural awards ceremony and dinner to celebrate the achievements of local manufacturers and exporters.
The event highlighted the significant contributions of agro processors who have excelled in regional and international markets.
The GMC has been pivotal in supporting agro processors by facilitating product development, certification, packaging, and labeling.
This support has contributed to a notable increase in the number of agro processors, with approximately 3,599 products across 24 categories recorded since 2020.
Awards were presented in various categories, including Exporter of the Year, Youngest Agro Processor, and Manufacturer of the Year, recognizing excellence and innovation within the industry.
David Fernandes, Chairman of the GMC Board, emphasized the corporation’s commitment to expanding its support for local industries.
General Manager Teshawna Lall echoed this sentiment, affirming ongoing investments to bolster the sector and secure new export markets.
Minister Mustapha highlighted the economic impact of these efforts, noting that over 900 million dollars in revenue was generated through the export of non-traditional crops in the first half of 2024.
He emphasized the dual benefits of foreign currency generation and the enhancement of Guyana’s reputation as a supplier of high-quality food products.
