Guyana has achieved the highest nursery school enrollment rates in the Commonwealth Caribbean region, according to Education Minister Priya Manickchand.

This announcement was made during the commissioning of the newly reconstructed St Gabriel’s Nursery School.

Since taking office in 2020, the government has made substantial investments in the education sector, including the construction of 42 new nursery schools.

This focus on early childhood education and the strong parental commitment to ensuring nursery education have contributed to Guyana’s leading position in enrollment statistics.

Minister Manickchand emphasized the government’s dedication to improving educational outcomes and highlighted the need to address literacy challenges among nursery-aged children.

She stressed that a robust educational system requires accountability and clear outcomes for students to prevent future learning gaps.

The newly reconstructed St Gabriel’s Nursery School, located on Albert and Crown Streets in Queenstown, features a two-story building with ten classrooms.

It currently accommodates 161 students, including 84 first-year pupils.

Minister Manickchand’s address underscored the importance of early childhood education in fostering long-term academic success and maintaining Guyana’s impressive enrollment figures.
