Guyana Launches Agriculture Month 2023

Agriculture Month 2023 launched with an interfaith service at the Ministry's Regent Street Office

The Ministry of Agriculture in Guyana inaugurated Agriculture Month 2023 with an interfaith service at its Regent Street Office.

This annual observance aims to highlight the significant advancements in the agriculture sector while showcasing investment opportunities to local, regional, and international investors.

Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Zulfikar Mustapha, emphasized the critical role agriculture plays as the backbone of Guyana’s economy. He outlined the government’s commitment to investing in the sector, with the goal of reducing the region’s food import bill by 25% by 2025 and achieving food security.

The theme for Agriculture Month 2023 is “Accelerating Vision 25 by 2025: Investing in Agri-business and Food Security.”

The month-long celebration will feature various activities, including Market Days and Open Days, the launch of Agro-Processing Facilities, Plant Distributions, and the highly anticipated Agri-Investment Forum at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre.

This year’s observance is particularly significant as Guyana undergoes a substantial transformation in the agriculture sector, with a focus on diversification and investments in climate-smart agriculture practices.
