The Guyana Karate College (GKC) is gearing up to host the International Karate Daigaku World Cup from July 16 to 21 in Georgetown, Guyana, with the aim of promoting and expanding participation in the sport of martial arts.

Chief instructor Guy Low, a seventh-degree black belt, shared insights into the college’s preparations and aspirations for the upcoming event.

Located on Thomas Lands, the Guyana Karate College seeks to increase engagement in martial arts, emphasizing its benefits for people of all ages.

Low highlighted the inclusive nature of karate, noting its capacity to instill discipline, self-control, and physical and mental exercise.

He underscored karate’s role in fostering good character and enabling self-defense against potential attackers, making it a valuable pursuit for individuals seeking personal development and security.

With the World Cup approaching, Low expressed excitement about hosting participants from various countries, including Canada, the USA, and the Caribbean.

Despite the pressure that comes with hosting such a prestigious event, Low affirmed the college’s commitment to training its karatekas rigorously to achieve favorable outcomes.

Ahead of the World Cup, the GKC extends an invitation to individuals of all ages to explore the practice of karate and join its diverse community of practitioners.

The college boasts a range of participants, from five-year-old beginners to seasoned practitioners in their mid-sixties, highlighting the accessibility and inclusivity of martial arts training.
