In commemoration of World Wildlife Day, the Guyana Wildlife Conservation and Management Commission, in partnership with the Protected Areas Commission, organized a vibrant wildlife fair at the Guyana Zoological Park.

World Wildlife Day serves as an occasion to honor the diverse flora and fauna of our planet while raising awareness about the importance of their conservation. It also underscores the pressing need to combat wildlife crime.

Deuel Hughes, Communication Officer of the Guyana Wildlife Conservation and Management Commission, stressed the significance of observing this day in Guyana.

He highlighted the event’s role in educating the public about the vital contributions of animals and plants to the environment and fostering a sense of responsibility towards their protection.

Hughes further emphasized the critical role of wildlife conservation in enhancing our quality of life and maintaining a balanced ecosystem.

He underscored how every species contributes to essential aspects of life on Earth, such as clean air, water, and materials for various purposes.

Representatives from organizations like Karanambu Lodge, who participated in the fair, echoed the importance of the initiative.

Teshana Panchu, a representative from Karanambu Lodge, highlighted how the event helps spread awareness about the diverse wildlife in Guyana, especially among children who may not be familiar with their habitats.

The fair featured an array of activities, including exhibitions from various organizations, face painting for children, and opportunities to interact with animals.

It aimed to engage the public in wildlife conservation efforts and promote the theme “Connecting People and Planet: Explore Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation.”

Overall, the event served as a platform to celebrate Guyana’s rich biodiversity and encourage collective efforts to protect and preserve wildlife for future generations.
