The Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) is gearing up to select its squad for the 2024 World Indoor Masters World Cup, marking Guyana’s debut in the under 45 category at the prestigious event. Here’s the scoop:

Scheduled to be held in Nottingham, England, from March 28 to April 1, the competition organized by the World Masters Hockey will witness teams from around the globe vying for glory.

Guyana, led by Phillip Fernandes, the Head of the GHB, will field a male team in the over 45 category, marking a significant milestone for the country in masters’ international hockey.

Fernandes expressed that preparations are in full swing to ensure Guyana is well-represented at the tournament, providing players with their first taste of masters’ international action.

Acknowledging the growing interest in masters’ hockey globally, Fernandes highlighted the importance of Guyana’s participation, foreseeing positive impacts on the sport domestically.

The World Cup will feature male and female national teams competing across various age groups, including over 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, and 60 categories.

Guyana will face formidable opponents from nations such as Germany, France, England, Canada, Bangladesh, Australia, and Wales.

The tournament will kick off at the David Ross Sport Village, located at the University of Nottingham Park in the United Kingdom.
