The Guyana Golf Association (GGA) has declared 2024 a groundbreaking year for the sport, marked by several remarkable initiatives and achievements that have raised the profile of golf across the nation.
Through strategic partnerships and a commitment to inclusivity, the GGA has paved the way for a promising future for Guyanese golf, particularly for youth and women.
Aleem Hussain, President of the GGA, shared that in collaboration with the NextGen Golf Academy, the GGA introduced golf to secondary schools across the nation.
They donated equipment, including balls, and provided specialized training for Physical Education teachers to ensure thousands of students in grades 7-9 were introduced to the sport.
This initiative led to an unprecedented 98% pass rate for students who selected golf as their elective at the CSEC exams.
Hussain also highlighted the GGA’s strides in promoting inclusivity, noting that in 2024, over 60% of participants in GGA programs were women and children.
Looking ahead, the GGA plans to begin construction on two PGA-branded 18-hole golf courses that will meet international standards, positioning Guyana as a contender in the global golfing community.
With the achievements of 2024 setting the foundation, Hussain and the GGA’s vision for golf in Guyana continues to inspire and drive the sport towards a future of excellence and inclusivity.
