The Guyana Fire Service has commenced its 50th Fire Prevention Month, launching a series of community activities aimed at promoting fire safety awareness.

The month kicked off with a religious service held at the National Cultural Centre, where officials underscored the importance of the initiative.

This year’s theme, “Fire Safety and Green, One Guyana Dream,” reflects the fire service’s commitment to enhancing public safety and environmental awareness.

The activities planned for this month include visits to schools, fire safety presentations, distribution of hampers, house-to-house outreach, and community engagement sessions.

Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn acknowledged the significant advancements within the fire service, attributing these improvements to the government’s substantial investments.

He pointed out the increased number of fire stations and the ongoing acquisition of modern firefighting equipment as key elements contributing to the enhanced capabilities of the service.

Senior officer Haimchandra Persaud highlighted the collective responsibility of all citizens in preventing fires and fostering a culture of safety within communities.

Since its establishment, the Guyana Fire Service has constructed over 20 fire stations across the country and employs more than 800 firefighters and emergency medical technicians, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to protecting lives and property throughout Guyana.

The Guyana Fire Service’s 50th Fire Prevention Month aims to engage the community actively, encouraging a collaborative approach to fire safety and prevention as they work towards a safer, fire-free environment for all.
