The fourth edition of the Guyana Energy Conference kicked off this morning under the theme, “Connecting the Dots: Integrating the Future.”

President Dr. Irfaan Ali delivered the feature address, emphasizing the importance of partnerships and investments in driving prosperity for Guyana and the wider region.

In his address, President Ali highlighted the growing trajectory of regional collaboration, supported by shared values and multilateral cooperation.

He also revealed that a proposal had been received from the U.S.-based company Curlew Midstream, aiming to establish a refined fuels venture in Guyana.

The project is expected to invest at least US$300 million in its first phase, which will initially meet Guyana’s national fuel demand and later expand to serve northern Brazil and the Caribbean.

Although the fuel will be refined outside of Guyana, a storage facility will be built locally, positioning the country as a regional hub for refined fuels.

President Ali pointed out that fuel imports to Guyana are projected to reach US$7 billion over the next seven years, while CARICOM’s annual fuel demand stands at US$10 billion.

With over 7,000 attendees, 180 booths, and 70 presenters, the four-day conference provides a platform for meaningful discussions with regulatory bodies and policymakers on supply chain excellence and sustainability within the oil and gas sector.
