The much-anticipated Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo commenced today, attracting numerous energy professionals from the Caribbean and beyond.

Now in its third year, the conference emphasizes the significant opportunities in logistics and transport systems within Guyana for expanding trade across the Caribbean and South America.

President Dr. Irfaan Ali, delivering the keynote address, highlighted the pivotal role of the supply chain aspect in the government’s policy shift.

He emphasized that while Guyana’s oil and gas potential is substantial, its translation into value depends on the existence of a viable market.

President Ali affirmed that his administration is laying the groundwork to facilitate this transition effectively.

Furthermore, President Ali underscored the crucial role of logistics and transport systems in bolstering the local economy, fostering regional integration, and enhancing competitiveness.

The aim, President Ali articulated, is to achieve full integration of the Guyanese economy with CARICOM, South America, the Dominican Republic, and beyond.

He referenced the forthcoming regional cargo ferry involving Guyana, Barbados, Trinidad, and Tobago as a testament to the profitability of investments in regional transportation.

President Ali highlighted several upcoming projects, including a deep-water port for Berbice, a bridge connecting Guyana with Suriname, and a road to Brazil, which are poised to unlock vast investment opportunities in transport and logistics.

These initiatives are expected to further solidify Guyana’s role in regional food security and facilitate the exportation of products like bauxite in collaboration with Suriname to other nations.

The annual conference and exhibition, themed “Fuelling Transformation and Modernization,” are being held at the Guyana Marriott Hotel from February 19–22.
