The Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) organized an electric vehicle showcase at the University of Guyana Berbice Campus, underscoring Guyana’s commitment to embracing renewable energy and sustainable transportation solutions.

Prime Minister Mark Phillips delivered remarks at the event, emphasizing the importance of keeping pace with the global shift towards electric vehicles (EVs) and renewable energy sources.

The showcase provided attendees with an opportunity to explore and learn about various types of EVs, particularly those powered by solar energy.

Industry experts engaged with participants, discussing the benefits of EVs in transitioning Guyana towards a low-carbon future and addressing climate change challenges.

Prime Minister Phillips highlighted the significance of Guyana’s transition towards greater usage of renewable energy, aligning with global trends.

He emphasized the importance of resilience against climate change, noting that research supports the adoption of renewable energy sources.

In his address, Prime Minister Phillips revealed that six charging stations for electric vehicles are already operational across the country, with plans underway to install more in the coming year.

This infrastructure development aims to support the growing adoption of EVs and facilitate their widespread use.

Dr. Mahender Sharma, Head of the Guyana Energy Agency, shared insights into the agency’s efforts, disclosing that 50 electricians and mechanics have been trained to maintain the charging stations.

This initiative reflects Guyana’s commitment to building local capacity in renewable energy technologies and supporting the EV ecosystem.

The event, a collaborative effort between GEA, Green Power Solutions, and Massy Motors, signifies a step forward in Guyana’s journey towards a sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation sector.

It demonstrates the government’s commitment to fostering innovation and embracing clean energy solutions for a greener future.
