President Dr. Irfaan Ali has announced Guyana’s commitment to showcasing its leadership on the issues of forest and climate change at the upcoming Conference of Parties (COP 28) UN Climate Change Conference in the United Arab Emirates.
The conference is scheduled to take place from November 30 to December 12.
Guyana will have its pavilion at COP28, operated by the host country on a commercial basis, providing dedicated spaces for participating parties and observers to host private meetings.
President Ali highlighted the international recognition of Guyana’s leadership in addressing forest, environmental, and climate change issues, particularly due to the success of the government’s Low Carbon Development Strategy.
“I’m pleased to tell you that Guyana will be given a pavilion—a dedicated space for us to show our development model and strategy,” President Irfaan Ali stated during a press conference.
The President emphasized that Guyana’s approach to forest management and climate change has gained international acclaim. The success of the Low Carbon Development Strategy has contributed to this recognition.
President Ali’s intention is to position Guyana at the global leadership table while fostering economic growth for the country.
COP28, a two-week conference, will bring together world leaders, experts, and stakeholders to discuss and strategize on global efforts to combat climate change.
Pre-sessionals for the conference are set to begin on November 24.
Guyana’s participation in COP28 underscores its commitment to actively contributing to global initiatives aimed at addressing climate change and promoting sustainable development.
