The 2024 Guyana Cup, organized by the Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee, showcased its most prestigious lineup of horses since the event’s inception 16 years ago.

According to the committee’s chairman, Nasrudeen Mohammed Jr, the event’s quality has significantly improved, with stables from various regions bringing in top-tier thoroughbreds for the competition.

This year’s event required substantial investment to elevate the competition, with the feature race providing a total prize payout of $11.5 million.

The winner took home $6 million, contributing to a combined prize pool of $40 million across 10 races held at the Rising Sun Turf Club, West Coast Berbice.

Despite not owning any of the horses in the top races, Mohammed Jr trained several horses, including Master Z Racing stable’s champion Easy Time and Novo Sol, owned by Jermaine Sripal.

The race demonstrated the high level of competition, which organizers intend to maintain for future events.

Plans are already underway to improve regulations and safeguard the sport of kings in Guyana.

The 2025 Guyana Cup is scheduled for August 17 at the same venue, with organizers aiming to continue raising the bar for the country’s premier thoroughbred horse racing event.
