Guyana Contributes $110.8 Million in Humanitarian Aid to Palestine Through UN Agency

In a remarkable display of solidarity, Guyanese citizens have collectively donated over $110.8 million to support Palestinian refugees through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

Facilitated by the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG), the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO), and the Guyana Islamic Trust (GIT), this fundraising initiative reflects Guyana’s commitment to global peace and humanitarian causes.

President Dr. Irfaan Ali expressed gratitude for the unity demonstrated by Guyanese from diverse backgrounds in providing this significant donation.

He emphasized Guyana’s unwavering support for global efforts aimed at bringing peace to Palestine and highlighted the country’s commitment to alleviating the suffering of Palestinians.

The funds were delivered to UNRWA by President Ali, underscoring Guyana’s proactive role in international humanitarian efforts.

UN Resident Coordinator to Guyana, Yesim Oruc, extended appreciation on behalf of the United Nations for Guyana’s generous contribution, acknowledging the country’s commitment to global solidarity and humanitarianism.

Director of CIOG, Sheikh Moen ul-Hac, commended President Ali and the government for their leadership and advocacy in addressing the plight of Palestinians.

He emphasized the urgency of ending Israel’s actions not aligned with international principles and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Gaza.

This substantial donation reflects Guyana’s commitment to upholding human rights, promoting peace, and supporting vulnerable populations worldwide.
