Guyana Concludes Tri-National Basketball Series with Victory

In the inaugural tri-nation championship basketball series, Guyana secured a victory in their final match against French Guiana, finishing third overall.

Led by senior national player Shelroy Thomas, who contributed 16 points, Guyana emerged strong against their French Guiana counterparts.

At halftime, Guyana led by six points with a score of 46-40.

In the second half, Domain Gladstone (13 points) and Travis Belgrave (12 points) played pivotal roles as Guyana defeated French Guiana with a final score of 85-69.

Despite French Guiana’s Egali Frederic finishing with 18 points, Guyana clinched the victory and left Paramaribo, Suriname, with pride after bouncing back from a loss in their opener.

In the championship’s final, Suriname All-Star triumphed over Suriname’s top side Koi Carper Basketball Club with a score of 95-63.

Prado Archinio (21 points) and Monkou Kelvin (19 points) led Suriname All-Star to the title.

In their earlier match on Saturday, Guyana faced a setback against Suriname All-Stars with a final score of 75-62.

Despite leading by one point at halftime, Guyana couldn’t maintain the advantage in the second half, allowing Suriname to secure a 13-point victory and end Guyana’s chance of playing in the final.

This friendly tour was part of Guyana’s preparation for the Caribbean Basketball Confederation later in the year.

The Guyana senior basketball squad, coached by Adrian Hooper and Marlon Rodriguez, included players like Shelroy Thomas, Shane Webster, Harold Adams, Orlan Glasgow, Dominic Vincente, Nikkolai Smith, Travis Belgrave, Oquacey Shortt, Zion Gray, Yannick Tappin, and skipper Stanton Rose Jr.
