Trade between Guyana and China has witnessed impressive growth, increasing by 31 percent to surpass 500 million US dollars in the first half of this year.

This significant rise in bilateral trade was highlighted by outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Guyana, Guo Haiyan, during a farewell ceremony held last evening.

Ambassador Guo noted that trade relations between the two nations had grown substantially over the past 11 years, climbing from 180 million US dollars to 1.23 billion US dollars, reflecting the deepening historical ties between Guyana and China.

During her three-year tenure in Guyana, Ambassador Guo emphasized the importance of practical cooperation and the mutual determination of both countries to enhance relations in various sectors.

She also recognized the contributions of the Belt and Road Initiative, which has bolstered infrastructure development and positioned Guyana as a key player in global development.

Acting President Mark Phillips, in his remarks, commended the ambassador for her role in strengthening Guyana-China relations, emphasizing the lasting impact of the cooperation on the nation’s economic development and global standing.
