The festivities of Tourism Awareness Month were inaugurated with a spectacular cultural showcase, signaling a month-long celebration of Guyana’s rich cultural heritage.
Minister Oneidge Walrond Walter emphasized the importance of integrating Guyana’s cultural and religious festivals into businesses’ tourism offerings to propel the nation as a premier Caribbean tourist destination.
During the grand launch held at the Roth Museum of Anthropology in Georgetown, Minister Walrond Walter underscored the potential of uniting cultural heritage and tourism to drive the local tourism sector.
She expressed her vision of invigorating tourism products through a dynamic fusion of cultural elements.
Minister Walrond Walter also highlighted the pivotal role the private sector can play in diversifying cultural offerings and nurturing emerging talents, while acknowledging the government’s substantial investments in this endeavor.
Throughout the month, local tourism agencies will showcase indigenous culture through innovative initiatives: the ‘Discover Guyana Passport’ and ‘Guyana Escapes 2023.’
The passport, set to launch over the next five days, presents heavily discounted packages and provides travelers with the opportunity to accrue tour value, redeemable for up to $100,000 on future tours.
Tourism Awareness Month 2023 is celebrated under the theme “Cultural Tapestry: Investing in Our People, Enriching Our Heritage.”
