Guyana Celebrates Mashramani with President Ali and Ministers in Attendance

President Irfaan Ali and several government ministers joined the vibrant celebration of Mashramani as jubilant mash bands filled the streets of the capital today.

Amidst the energetic revelry, Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken and Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha, among others, were spotted enjoying the festivities.

NCN News had the opportunity to speak with them, gaining valuable perspectives on the significance of the occasion.

Minister Mustapha emphasized the importance of showcasing Guyana’s agricultural potential during Mashramani, especially as the country prepares to host the CARICOM Heads of Government meeting.

He highlighted the role of the agriculture sector in driving Guyana’s prosperity.

Commissioner Hicken provided assurances regarding security arrangements, noting the successful coordination of security measures to ensure an incident-free celebration.

He also remarked on the significant turnout compared to previous years, highlighting the dedication of law enforcement personnel along the parade route.

Nicholas Fraser, Head of the Allied Arts Unit at the Ministry of Education, highlighted the innovative aspects of Guyana’s education system showcased through the Mashramani floats.

He emphasized the integration of smart classroom technologies and online learning tools, reflecting Guyana’s commitment to advancing education.

The streets came alive with over 40 bands representing both public and private sector agencies, adorned in colorful costumes and exuding the spirit of celebration. Mashramani 2024 is being celebrated under the theme “Celebrating Our Peoples and Our Prosperity,” reflecting the nation’s pride in its cultural heritage and economic achievements.

As Mashramani festivities continue, Guyanese across the country unite in celebration, embodying the spirit of unity, cultural diversity, and national pride.
