In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Guyana Cancer Foundation organized a tree-wrapping event on Main Street in Georgetown to promote awareness about breast cancer.
The ceremony, which featured vibrant shades of pink adorning the trees along the avenue, aimed to show support for breast cancer survivors.
This year’s theme, “No one should face breast cancer alone,” underscores the foundation’s commitment to raising awareness and highlighting the importance of support for those affected by the disease.
Farah Yusuf, Treasurer of the Guyana Cancer Foundation, emphasized that facing breast cancer is an incredibly challenging experience.
She noted that support from the community can provide comfort and strength to cancer patients and their families during this difficult time.
British High Commissioner to Guyana, Jane Miller, also supported the initiative, urging women to recognize the importance of regular screenings.
She stressed that awareness goes beyond wearing pink or displaying ribbons; it is about understanding the significance of prevention and research in the fight against breast cancer.
Miller encouraged women to prioritize self-examinations and mammograms.
The Guyana Cancer Foundation plans to continue its awareness efforts throughout the month with various events, including the much-anticipated annual walk against breast cancer, which aims to gather hundreds of supportive citizens in solidarity.
