Guyana Boxing Association Sets Sights on Olympic Qualification at PanAm Games

Steve Ninvalle, President of the Guyana Boxing Association (Guyana Chronicle) - Commencement of a nine-month boxing program.

Steve Ninvalle, President of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), highlights the upcoming PanAm games in Chile (October 20 to November 5) as a crucial opportunity for the nation’s top boxers to secure spots for the Olympic Games in Paris, France next year.

Ninvalle emphasizes that this strategic approach would allow the GBA to channel resources into preparing the team for the Olympics, rather than diverting efforts to qualify for the quadrennial games.

Additionally, the GBA is considering an intensive overseas training camp for their top boxers, further enhancing their readiness for the PanAm games.

The GBA has assembled a five-member squad for the PanAm Games in Chile, featuring boxers Desmond Amsterdam (79 kg), Keevin Allicock, Emmanuel Pompey, Joel Williamson, and Alesha Jackman. Technical Director Terrence Poole, along with Cuban coach Franciso Roldan, will lead the team.

Keevin Allicock, who last represented Guyana at the 2019 edition of the PanAm games, is among the talented contenders striving for Olympic qualification.
