The Guyana Basketball Federation (GBF) has confirmed Guyana’s participation in the 2024 FIBA 3×3 AmeriCup tournament, scheduled to take place from December 13 to 15 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
This event serves as a crucial stepping stone toward the FIBA 3×3 World Cup and the Olympic Games.
Guyana first competed in the FIBA 3×3 AmeriCup during its inaugural edition in 2021 and continued their participation in 2022.
Although the team missed the 2023 edition in San Juan, they are eager to return for this year’s tournament.
The GBF has shortlisted 14 players for the competition, including: Anthony Moe, Akeem Crandon, Delroy James, Deylon Bovell, Dominic Vincente, Harold Adams, Isreal Yaw, Nikkoloi Smith, Ray Victor, Shelroy Thomas, Stanton Rose Jr., Timothy Thompson, Travis Belgrave, and Yonnick Tappin.
Michael Singh, President of the GBF, expressed confidence in the team’s chances this year, noting their previous track record in the competition.
In the 2022 edition, Guyana finished 11th out of 17 teams, with a record of three wins and two losses.
Singh emphasized that, unlike in their previous outing, they plan to hold a one-week training camp to ensure the players are well-prepared for the tournament.
3×3 basketball, recognized as an Olympic sport during the Tokyo 2020 Games, continues to grow in popularity worldwide, and the GBF is keen to build on the momentum and bring home a strong performance.
