Guyana Badminton Association’s Easter Tournament Showcases Top Players

The Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) hosted its annual Easter Tournament at the National Gymnasium, featuring top players from across the country.

The tournament kicked off with a doubles event, where athletes competed in men’s, women’s, and mixed categories.

In the women’s doubles matches, Anna Perreira and Ashley Khalil secured an early victory against Priyanka Shvinauth and Joanne Tan.

However, Perreira and Khalil were later defeated by Priyanna Ramdhani and Mishka Beharry.

Neveah Eastman and Malia Haley also emerged victorious against Tyra Gomes and Aaliyah Bacchus, while Alimah Eastman and Asiyah Eastman won their match against Leshaunte Berkley and Gabrielle Felix.

Moving to the men’s doubles category, Akili Haynes and Tyrese Jeffrey claimed victory after a close match against Shane Birkett and Percival Chester.

Other notable wins included Matthew Klautky and Omkar Persaud, William Holder and Jason Khalil, and Nkosi Beaton and Frank Waddell.

The mixed doubles matches showcased impressive performances from pairs such as Akili Haynes/Priyanna Ramdhani, Tyrese Jeffrey/Ambika Ramraj, and Nkosi Beaton/Anna Perreira.

Vice-President of the GBA, Ayanana Watson, expressed gratitude to sponsor Darrell Carpenay of GUMDAC for supporting the event.

Additionally, the GBA welcomed the participation of the newly formed Demerara and Berbice Badminton Club.

The tournament will continue with quarter-finals and semi-finals at the National Gymnasium this evening.

The Easter Tournament highlights the competitive spirit and talent within Guyana’s badminton community, providing an opportunity for players to showcase their skills on a national stage.
