Guyana and Qatar are advancing their diplomatic and economic ties through high-level political consultations focused on fostering cooperation in key sectors.
The discussions, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized collaboration in agriculture, health, energy, and investment, while also exploring opportunities within multilateral institutions such as the United Nations.
Foreign Secretary Robert Persaud highlighted Guyana’s rapid economic growth and expanding investment opportunities, particularly in oil, gas, and emerging sectors.
He stressed that while progress has been made, there remains significant potential for deeper collaboration between the two countries.
Qatar’s Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Ahmed bin Hassan Al Hammadi, reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Guyana, particularly through investments in energy, hospitality, real estate, and infrastructure.
He also mentioned the ongoing projects and the potential for future cooperation to enhance regional stability.
In a significant move, an MOU for Political Consultations was signed between Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hugh Todd, and Dr. Al Hammadi.
The MOU will establish a framework for regular political dialogue and cooperation between Guyana and Qatar, marking a new chapter in their bilateral relations.
