Guyana and Dominican Republic Strengthen Ties with New Training Agreement

On July 27, 2024, the Ministry of Labour of Guyana and the National Institute for Technical and Vocational Training (INFOTEP) of the Dominican Republic formalized a significant partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

This agreement is set to enhance technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in both countries, aiming to foster economic growth and social development.

The newly signed MoU establishes a comprehensive framework for advancing skill development, emphasizing innovation, inclusivity, and adherence to international best practices.

The collaboration will focus on several key areas, including professional education, career guidance, youth skills competitions, support systems for employment, and the integration of digital solutions into training programs.

Minister of Labour Joseph Hamilton praised the Dominican Republic’s innovative approach to TVET, expressing his belief in the initiative’s potential for success.

He highlighted the agreement as a critical step towards improving the quality of vocational training in Guyana.

In a similar vein, Ambassador Ernesto Torres-Pereyra of the Dominican Republic viewed the MoU as a milestone in strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.

He noted that the agreement would contribute significantly to the economic advancement of both countries.

Dr. Ritesh Tularam, Deputy Chief Education Officer (Technical), underscored the importance of the MoU, describing it as a meaningful and purposeful development.

He pointed out that addressing skill requirements is crucial for the continued progress of Guyana.

This new partnership promises to make a substantial impact on the training and development of skilled professionals in both Guyana and the Dominican Republic, paving the way for greater economic and social benefits.
