Guyana and Cuba Sign MOU to Elevate Agriculture, Focus on Honey Production

Guyana has entered into a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Cuba during the ongoing Agri Investment Forum and Expo.

The MOU aims to establish a collaborative framework between the agriculture ministries of both countries, encompassing various sectors within the agriculture industry.

These sectors include the cultivation of agricultural and vegetable products, livestock and animal products, beekeeping, and forestry, among others.

Madanlall Ramraj, Director General of Guyana’s Ministry of Agriculture, emphasized the alignment of agricultural goals between the two nations, with particular attention to be devoted to beekeeping and honey production.

Cuban Ambassador to Guyana, Jorge Luis, expressed confidence that this partnership will further fortify bilateral relations and yield positive outcomes.

Given the projected growth of the global honey market, with an anticipated compound annual growth rate of 5.2 percent from 2022 to 2030, bolstering Guyana’s honey industry is a strategic priority for the government’s agricultural development agenda.

Concurrently, Cuba’s honey production sector has experienced notable expansion, achieving record exports of 8,500 metric tonnes in 2021, primarily to markets in Western Europe, Canada, Japan, the Bahamas, and Martinique.
